CONJUNCTIVORHINOSTOMY BY USING POLYETHLENE TUBES

Abstract

In the severe destruction of lacrimal apparatus with naso-orbital bone fracture and failed previous procedures, it was impossible to restore the lacrimal apparatus into the normal anatomical position. The authors performed conjunctivorhinostomy with polyethylene tube by probing method in such cases. This method is implantation of permanent indwelling polyethylene tube from the caruncle site to nasal cavity.
There are several advantages in this method.
1. The technique is simple, less traumatic and less time consuming operation.
2. Outpatient basis with local anesthesia.
3. Less postoperative care is required.
4. Good drainage to nasal cavity.
The authors recommended this technique for the treatment of epiphora as the terminal procedures of lacrimal drainage.
